Daily layout challenge - day 5

This paper is from Echo Park's For the Record line. Doncha just love it? Yeah, another scraplift from a magazine but I still made it my own by inking the edges of the paper ribbon I cut out (Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Stained Walnut), and adding the pom-pom ribbon. I also used my MS around the page Loopy punch (can't think of what it's called off the top of my head), added a journaling tag from the For the Record paper line, and distressed round flowers. The center of the flowers are jeweled brads (large) by American Crafts. I do not have a die for the paper ribbon; I cut it at 1.5x11 inches and then snipped on the end to look like a ribbon. Sorry, I did not put any photos on the mats. If you click on the pics you will see that the mats are one of the coordinating papers from the same paper line.

Enjoy!

Daily layout challenge - day 4

The paper is more from the My Mind's Eye line Good Day Sunshine and a new MS punch Bangle Chain Trim (a deep edge punch). I started off using a photo from when we went to South Miami Beach and attempted to blend some of the art deco flavor to my layout (the MS punch). But when I got to the coordinating page I couldn't find anymore pics from that trip. So I used a couple of pics from a cruise we were on to Cozumel.

The flowers with the scalloped edge are from 2 different MS punches: doily lace and scallop dot. The scallop on top is from my Spellbinders set. And the dot on top of all that is something I cut out using my 5/8 circle punch and one of the papers from the Good Day Sunshine line (the same paper I used for most of the rosettes). Oh! The matted parts are from the Spellbinders Grande collection, labels 1 I think (if not, then 4). They are the larger version of the smaller set and the smallest one in the larger set coordinates with the smaller set; it would be the next spellbinder size up.

Enjoy!:

Last of CHA pics

More stuff from the Ranger booth at CHA! This is the last of the pics! I actually have more pics but I think everyone may be tired of CHA by now and ready to move on. Some of the pics are sideways, sorry about that!

Enjoy!

Don't know what booth this flower display was at. But it was very cool!

Live! from Texas...it's Saturday Night!

Ok, here's a couple of pics from last night's Gala. We went to a fundraiser where the Blue Brothers (Zee and Elwood) performed. Guests were encouraged to dress up as their favorite SNL character. We went as Coneheads. Jim Belushi was pulling various women on stage during their encore. In one photo, that's me, dressed as a Conehead, on stage and DH took the pic at the moment when I came face to face with Dan Aykroyd. I'm holding the "sensor ring" which I made out of a coat hanger and a black boa. More pics and videos on that later and of course the pics will be going in a layout!

There were a lot of great costumes; mostly Blue Brothers and Bees. I think Wayne and Garth were the next. Lots of Egyptians (Steve Martin's King Tut); a couple of Sara Palin's and Church Ladies; Da Bears!; and a few Coneheads although we were the best and I'm not being biased either. Except for one couple, who were among the organizers for the show, all of the other Coneheads wore skimpy skin tight outfits with their Cones. DH and I, and that other couple I mentioned, were the only ones to wear a costume from the skits on SNL or the movie. DH and I were the only ones with the sensor rings and the capes - both of which I made.

Bought my "costume" at the Goodwill Store and Ms (the apron and iron on decals), DH's came from his closet. We bought the cones from an online costume store. The cone fit DH's head better than it fit mine. I did not think to slit it in the back and sew or glue it tight like the other Conehead women did. We got DH's to stay using first aid tape. The tape wouldn't stick to me; already had make up on.

CHA - part 12

I will have another blog candy challenge when I get 100 followers!

More pics from the Graphic 45 booth. A couple of pics are turned sideways, sorry about that! Will adjust.

Enjoy!

Layout challenge - day 3

I really like this layout. It came out much better than I thought it would. This is still the Echo Park line For the Record. To cut around the "stamped" part I used a hole punch so my paper pieces would line up. Only cut out 1/2 a moon.

On the flowers I used a flower punch, spritzed with a little water, crinkled, unfold, and allow to dry. Then I used the new faux brad top technique someone recently posted. I didn't have a miniature wooden bowl from Ms, and I wasn't going to drive 7 miles (actually 14, round trip) just for that. So I put the circle on my ironing board and used my embosser tool that way with the foam mat under my iron board cover. I could never get cardboard, even cereal box cardboard, to cut out on my punches without breaking the punch. But a toilet paper role works just fine. I also inked the sides of the red polka dot photo mat with Tim Holtz Stained Walnut distress ink. Wish I had inked the edge of the faux brads. I might go back and do that.

These photos are from Ben's first trip to Key West, Florida. I had been several times before. Of course I took him to some of the hot spots that people go to for a great memorable photo op. It was surprisingly nippy that day. Yes, it can get chilly in Key West, even down to the low 50s.

Ok, be sure to check back throughout the upcoming week! We are going to a special event tonight and will hopefully have LOTS of cool photos! You know what that means! The "special event" is a fund raiser with a performance by the Blue Brothers! Jim Belushi is filling in for his deceased brother John. Yes, Dan Aykroyd will be there too! Guests are encouraged to dress up like their favorite SNL character. DH and I are going as the Coneheads. Now I'm wishing PC had an outerspace cart! So check back during the week for sure! I even made "sensor rings".

Enjoy!

CHA - part 11

I will have another blog candy challenge when I get 100 followers!

Heck, today I decided to go ahead and show Graphic 45 booth stuff. There will be nore tomorrow. I think 12 per page is plenty and takes long enough to load. Enjoy!:

Daily layout - Day 2

Ok, ok, I scraplifted. Sort of. If this layout looks familiar it's because I was inspired by a layout in one of my magazines. Sometimes I see a layout I like and rather than copy it completely I'll do a few things to make it mine or something I view as an "improvement". So, I changed it up a little bit.

Also, because I cannot get my sewing machine to cooperate on paper I used my Zig acid free writing pen to draw on the sew lines. I also added an extra piece of paper on the mat to give the page some color and used the MS punch "Ribbon Loop".

These are 2 of my favorite pics of our dogs. Ben and I were at the dog park one day, something my dogs weren't used to. My dogs stay near us while Ben's dog, Missy, was running around all over the place, playing in the dog pool, and having a lot of fun. Ben was sitting on the grass when my dogs came up to him and sat down next to him, side by side. It was a perfect photo op! I call it the lifesaver moment. You know, after those old commercials from the 70s where the father has his arm around his son and offers him a lifesaver to help make the day ok again?

In the next photo Missy is playing with a tennis ball. The photo says it all! I cut out the phrases from one of the papers in the Echo Park line For the Record (the paper that is used in this layout) that I thought best matched. Ben didn't get it at first. I told him to think like Missy while reading the expressions. It's like she's saying:  Just wanted to say (oh good! there's a ball on the ground); it's down to the wire (between me and the ball); it's too
good to be true (that no one else is after this ball!); it's too good to be true (this ball is all mine); I couldn't be happier (repeat: this ball is all mine!); tomorrow is another day (and another ball!).

Yeah, DH finally got it.

Enjoy!:

Blog challenge, day 1

Hmm...I got to thinking, and maybe it's been done already...I don't know...but I thought, why not have a layout or completed project every day for a year? Of course I might miss a day here and there, but it will be my responsibility to make up for the missing day. Either do an extra page a few days in advance, or get busy when I return from wherever it was I went to. Let's face it, I will be out of town occasionally. They made a movie about that chick who cooked something from Julia Child's cookbook every day of the year for a year but I doubt someone will make a movie about a scrapbook page every day of the year.

Plus I have all this lovely paper in my store. I need to give people ideas on how to use it so they will buy it. If I do a page a day it won't be long before my store wall is filled up and I'm forced to put the layouts in an album. Ooh! what a fabulous idea! to have one wall entirely devoted to my layouts. Ok, I say that now but we're talking about store space and I don't know if I can devote a single wall to layouts when I can use that for merchandise. We'll have to see about that.

Below is the first layout along with a new store sign I made for Judy. She needed a new winter store hours sign now that we're open on Mondays. And since we'll soon be leaving day lights saving time I created a summer hours sign for her as well. I used my Old West cricut cart for this one. The layout below that is the new line from My Mind's Eye called Good Day Sunshine. The boys in the photos are my cousin's children, 3 different cousins. We mainly have boys in my family; very few girls. So when I do make a girl layout out I tend to get really girly and go out. The red trim is from a new Martha Stewart punch called Diamond Fence Trim. It's a double edge punch.

Anyway, I attempted to run a piece of paper through my crimper but it did a better job of crimping on the top part of the paper. Maybe I need to switch crimper brands? My crimper does well with smaller pieces of paper. Don't know why it wouldn't cooperate with a larger piece of paper. I also used pop dots on the "just the boys" and "best buddies" signs; I thought it looked better. Only the signs themselves are available with the paper line; I had to use paper that best matched and cut around the best buddies sign. On the other it was a simple cut job with the paper trimmer and a half moon punch on each end with my 1/4 inch hole punch.

Well, if I'm going to do a layout-a-day then that means all of you will get to see snippets of my life. And believe me, I have LOTS of photos! With the Scrap-a-thon coming up I'll have all weekend to create. These layouts are pretty simple. Usually on the store level we don't worry about a whole lot of techniques on the layouts; we're pushing paper and products and in this case the My Mine's Eye paper line and a new Martha Stewart punch. Layout with techniques are usually saved for class layouts and there will be plenty of opportunity for that.

Oh well, enjoy!:
